WHAT EVERY WHOVIAN HAS ALWAYS KNOWN!

Cybermen took the stage last night in celebration of Doctor Who being awarded 'Best British TV Show' at the Radio 1 Teen Awards.

As the evening was packed with some of the biggest names in the television and music industry, celebrities gathered along with fans who were treated to a night of epic proportions, as well as a pair of delighted Cybermen who were all too happy to accept the award on-stage.

The evening's aim was to honour the most popular television programmes of 2013, hosted by Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw. Votes for each winner were made by the general public, who were happy to name Doctor Who as their favourite show. An apprehensive-looking Taylor Swift presented the award.

The nominees for 'Best British TV Show' are as follows:
  • Coronation Street
  • Doctor Who
  • Geordie Shore
  • Phone Shop
  • Youngers
As well as celebrating the best in entertainment, a select few teenage heroes from around the UK were also given awards for bravery.

ECCLESTON IN 50TH? QUITE POSSIBLY! *EXCLUSIVE*

An undisclosed source close to the Doctor Who production team indicated to us this morning that Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston may well be seen in the 50th Anniversary special, despite his recent comments to the contrary, and that he could have already filmed his part...!

Eccleston has recently said that he did have a meeting with showrunner Steven Moffat about a possible involvement in the end-of-year spectacular, but came away saying he wouldn't be involved.

However, my tight-lipped source refused to confirm or deny this in a very 'I know something you don't know' manner, which is a very strong pointer towards seeing the Ninth Doctor on our screens, joining Matt Smith and David Tennant.

Tennant, if you remember, recently denied all knowledge and involvement in the same way that Eccleston has.

Remember - you read it here FIRST on Type40 News!

Wouldn't it be FANTASTIC to see him?

MIRROR ONLINE CLAIMS ECCLESTON NOT TO RETURN AS NINTH DOCTOR

Eccleston: 'not in the episode'
News just in from Mirror Online: apparently Ninth Doctor Christoper Eccleston has declined to take part in the eagerly anticipated 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who, due to air later this year.

"The BBC has confirmed that although the Ninth Doctor thespian met with show runner Steven Moffat last year to discuss potential involvement, the 49-year-old declined to sign up for the project. 'Chris met with Steven Moffat a couple of times to talk about Steven's plans for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode,' a spokesperson told Mirror Online. “After careful thought, Chris decided not to be in the episode. He wishes the team all the best."

We're a bit disappointed to hear this news, but are holding on to the possibility that it's a cunning smokescreen designed to keep details of the forthcoming episode under wraps.

We'll bring you more news when – and if – we have it!

PETER DAVISON ON WHO 50TH

Fifth Doctor Peter Davison doubts his involvement with the anniversary special.

Image - Wikipedia
Although Davison has confirmed that he is due to enter talks, he revealed at fan convention, MystiCon that he does not expect to play a physical role in the drama, predominantly due to age and appearance,

"I don't think it will involve the older Doctors, certainly in their present form, because of course we're meant to look exactly as we did when we left the TARDIS and none of us really do."

Davison went on to say that he sees his role in the 50th as footage from his days as the Time Lord,

"I think we'll be featured somewhere but I should think it's probably footage lifted from older Doctor stories."

It seems as though no one really knows what's going on when it comes to the 50th... or do they?

Stockier, more menacing and with less fur, these new Ice Warriors will face the Doctor once more in episode three of the new run of episodes.

Although the Moff had previously stated that he didn't like the Ice Warriors, he has since changed his tune and claimed that the episode, written by Mark Gatiss, is "an absolute cracker".

With so much to come this year, we have to say that this looks sure to be a nostalgic highlight.

Doctor Who returns to our screens on March 30th on BBC One. Check out the trailer for the second half of series 7 below:

FIRST LOOK AT THE ICE WARRIORS AND 50TH UPDATE

We brought you the news last month that the Ice Warriors would be returning to Doctor Who in a new episode penned by Mark Gatiss.

Well, the first official image for the second half of series 7 has been released and if you look hard enough, the Ice Warriors can be spotted in the broken glass as Matt Smith and Jenna Louise-Coleman motorcycle down the side of London's Shard building.

These newly designed Ice Warriors are not too dissimilar from the original monster and with teeth baring they do look rather frightening. Let's see what Mark Gatiss can pull out the bag when the episode airs in April.

CAPTAIN JACK IS BACK... MAYBE

John Barrowman has confirmed that he is in talks for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special.

It was only in January of this year that the actor said he would be disappointed to miss out on the milestone episode. However, during an interview on This Morning a few days ago (March 1), Barrowman announced that he had been contacted:

"I haven't had any information up until just about right now - all I can say to you is that we're discussing things... that's a total exclusive! You guys are the first to ever hear it."

Despite his clear excitement at being involved in the 50th anniversary, Barrowman did go on to emphasize that the talks are in the very early stages:

"Even yesterday I was giving interviews and I was saying I have heard nothing, and now I can give you a little bit of an exclusive. I've heard something."

Since revealing his potential involvement, Barrowman has taken to Twitter, seemingly to calm down fans. He tweeted "Re 50th I didn't say in what capacity or what medium so stay calm and carry on. JB."

With so little having been revealed, speculation and rumours surrounding the 50th are spreading every day. We'll keep you updated when we know more.

MARTHA IS OUT

Image - thesun.co.uk
Freema Agyeman has stated that she will not be starring in the 50th anniversary special. Her claim was made on Twitter on March 3rd and read:

"I'm contributing 2a programme for BBC AMERICA but not involved in the drama. Excited 2watch tho."

The actress who is currently in the US starring in The Carrie Diaries did go on to say that she would play Martha Jones again, providing it was done the right way:

"Would I play Martha Jones again? : Yes - under the right circumstances ie character development opportunity."

We haven't seen Martha since her Sontaran hunting days with hubby Micky (Noel Clarke). Will we see her again?...

LATEST 50TH UPDATE:

Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston has told RedCarpetNewsTV that Doctor Who's 50th anniversary hasn't even crossed his mind.

Doctor Who hits its landmark show on November 23, 2013 but Eccleston was giving nothing away.

"Would I like to be involved? If I told you that, I'd have to shoot you," he said.
So, what exactly is Eccleston's involvement, if any? Who knows for now. Only time (and space) will tell.

Check out Christopher Eccleston's full interview with RedCarpetTV below:

NEIL GAIMAN'S NEW EPISODE WILL FEATURE CYBERMEN:

The BBC has confirmed that Neil Gaiman's new Doctor Who episode will see the return of the Cybermen as the Doctor and his latest companion come into contact with the emotionless monsters and a gang of misfits.

Image - shelf-life.ew.com
With Gaiman on writing duty and the return of one of the shows most iconic villains, the episode looks set to be on of the highest points of the second half of season 7, and it's even attracted some stellar actors to bring it to life.

Along with Matt Smith and his latest companion, Jenna Louise-Coleman, Gaiman's instalment will see the aforementioned misfits played by Warwick Davis (Life's Too Short), Tamzin Outhwaite (EastEnders) and Jason Watkins (Being Human).
We. Are. Excited.

MATT SMITH ON WHO 50TH

DOCTOR WHO celebrates its 50th anniversary next year and current Doctor, Matt Smith, has recently spoken to Digital Spy about the magnitude of the event.

"It will be one of the biggest events that we've ever done... it has to be" said Smith.

When asked if he knew what Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat had planned, Smith replied "not a lot as always I'm afraid - I know I'll be involved somehow."

The Moff was also questioned about the anniversary by the Digital Spy team although his response raised more questions than it answered.

"It's going to be huge but y'know we've got an awful lot of stuff to announce before that - so... patience" he said.

Clearly there are some big things coming our way in 2013 and we are expecting information to be coming our way on a daily basis.

November 23rd 2013 can't come soon enough!
